Flappy Dragon.

For the last 2 Months Me & My Friend have been working on the side on a game that is currently being worked on.
For this project I will be the Main Artist & Designer.

As the first “Game Project” We plan to make 3 types of different games.

The first game is basically “What if Flappy Bird, But Robot Dragon Instead?”

As we both wanted to experiment with different Ideas and how to improve some core mechanics that already exists in games… We started with Flappy Bird Core Mechanics for our first game.

As you know… to move the character in Flappy Bird, you need to continue to press the “jump button.” while avoiding obstables that are in your way. If you get hit, you lose.

So for this concept of the game Itself… makinng this game into a more Arcade game would fit the theme well.

So… how do we change or add things to make this game differently?

The first idea we had was to add a “fire Button.” If the player is going to be a “Robot Dragon” they should be able to shoot fire, as dragons can do.

So now the game Itself is more like a “sideview shooter.” Not only do you avoid obstacles… you also need to shoot enemies.

As for the theme of the game? We went with a more Sci-fi theme for the Enviroments. It is intended for the story this game will have for Itself. But more on that later.

So this game is going to be a side view shooter with Flappy Bird controls? Will this game be never ending or what?

Not exactly. - We both wanted to make this game more as a level structure Instead. In other words… the more you play, the more you will be able to remember each part of the level. That also means in the future we could add some more levels If we wanted to.

But currently our goal is just to have one level with a Boss fight at the end for you to defeat.

So currently, we are working on adding some enemies, fixing the level Itself… make sure everything is playable and then we will have a playtest with some of our close friends playing the game.

Once that part is done we will enter the next stage known as “Game Juice.”

So… What about Game Juice?

The Word “Game Juice” is all about making the game feel more fun and better to play.

We plan to add some stuff that could make the game more enjoyable to play. One feature we are thinking about is to add “health points” to the player.

We will add “hidden checkpoints” in the level where you will be able to respawn if you have died.
That way moving through the level will be easier and less punishing for the player.

And another thing we want to add is a “recovery timer” whenever you start the game or respawn we don’t want the player to drop dead right away… so having a few seconds to get yourself back into the game is something we want to have.

Lastly, adding some more animations and power ups might spice up the game a bit more. Currently we will only have 1 power up before the “Game Juice Stage” but we have 3 in mind to have in the finished version of this game.

Not much will be mentioned yet until this game project is more complete & playable.

Though our plan is to complete the game during this Month of May. So more info on this project will be shared later on.
